This is a digital photo with captions added to it. It was taken in the summer of 2001, during which Glyndebourne staff had, for the first time, to stop some of the opera-loving picnickers from lighting up barbecues for their traditional alfresco dinner in the interval. The field beyond is usually full of cows, a scene best recorded in a photo taken in the 1960s by Tony Ray-Jones.
