Another example of making a simple satire on the subject of a picture by introducing an element that is absurd, but also fits in an odd way into the scene. In this case it is (yet again) the dog Murphy, who has been introduced into a photo taken in the 1980s of the State Visit to London of Kenneth Kaunda, the then President of Zambia. State Visits usually start with a procession of ornate coaches, the first of which contains the Queen and the relevant visiting dignitary. Along the line, the coaches gradually diminish in grandeur and ornateness, as do their occupants. The final component of the procession is normally a streetsweeper from Westminster Council whose job is to collect up the horse droppings. In this picture, Murphy is about a quarter way down the line and is accompanied by the Duchess of Gloucester.
