The window of Gerry's Wines & Spirits in London's Old Compton Street in February 2003
Some religions forbid it and there's no doubt that alcohol is a powerful and dangerous drug. But despite its potential for harm, drinking is one of mankind's oldest pleasures and shows little sign of losing its popularity. Throughout history, thousands of plants and fruits have been investigated enthusiastically for their alcoholic possibilities and some of the concoctions people drink are very strange. No less bizarre can be the rituals associated with drinking or the variety of packaging and advertising for wines, spirits and beers. There is a lot of visual interest in the world of drink and Images Brighton has numerous pictures to illustrate this.
