Cheese on display at a food market in Brighton in June 2003
Displays of food and drink are the most traditional sights in retailing. The colourful produce of greengrocers contrasts with the darker hues on the butcher's slab and variegated browns of the bakery. The lettering (and spelling) of food and drink signs are also traditional and often exotic. Though supermarkets have brought about the closure of many independent shops, high streets are now enriched with food stores displaying Asian, African and West Indian specialities. The online library offers pictures of all sorts of food and drink displays in shops and markets, mainly in Brighton and London, but also in France and other European countries.
