Gardeners can be very particular about their muck. Some swear by the product of the horse, others build elaborate devices to compost organic mixtures of their own recipes. Whether they are pruning roses or digging vegetables, gardeners are enthusiasts and work hard for their rewards. In England in particular, the domestic garden or allotment is also where people like to put the stamp of their own individuality, sometimes involving regiments of gnomes or fantasies of topiary.
