Terence Higgins Trust awareness campaign in Brighton in August 2003
It is easy to forget that being gay was a crime punishable by imprisonment within the lifetime of older gay men. Moreover, it is also difficult to appreciate in a famously gay-friendly place like Brighton that prejudice and violence against homosexuals is still a widespread problem. There remains plenty of reason to protest and campaign against this, even if many gays now live their lives openly and happily. The online library has numerous pictures illustrating gay life and protest in Brighton and elsewhere.
