Even after over half a century, Germany is still seen, not least by the Germans themselves, as a country with a lot of rather awful historical baggage.  This is an increasingly unfair and unwarranted view, since German society is much more open than it was and the country's institutions are arguably more democratic than, say, those in Britain.  The cities of Germany have become livelier and more multi-cultural, even if the shops still have ridiculous opening hours and gangs of racist skinheads still roam in the east.  Germany may not be as obviously photogenic as Italy or France, but there are plenty of visual stories to be found there.  Images Brighton has interesting coverage of Berlin and this will be enlarged to cover other major German cities during the coming year.
