Guardsmen at Trooping the Colour rehearsal in Horseguards, London, in May 1987
There is scarcely a country in the world that has not had the pleasure, doubtful or otherwise according to one's political persuasion, of encountering the British armed forces. Even nowadays they are active from Ireland to Iraq and there is criticism that the defence budget is seriously over-stretched. Despite this, however, the army, navy and air force still keep up a tradition of showing themselves off in a unique and often colourful way at home. The online library has many pictures of military personnel and their equipment at royal occasions and other events since 1981.
