Covered market in Norwich in October 2003
Markets were the first form of retailing and they remain the liveliest and generally the cheapest places to shop. The variety and colour of market stalls and their traders are a refreshing contrast to the bland anonymity of most modern shopping centres and chain stores. The traditional clothing and fruit & vegetables are now often accompanied by stalls selling contemporary enthusiasms such as computer equipment or herbal remedies.
