Graffiti artwork mural at Black Rock on Brighton seafront in November 2003
Painting on walls is the oldest art in the world, though murals today are more likely made with a spray than a brush. A good mural brightens up its location and a lot of work goes into many contemporary spray-can examples, albeit that they are often very short-lived. Images Brighton has a good visual record of interesting murals old and new, along with examples of them being created. The library also contains an increasing number of pictures of mosaics, a related art-form with a long history and lively contemporary interpretation.
