An arrest on Brighton beach in August 1999
It's hard to imagine PC Dixon flying the police helicopter or storming a crack den with his sub-machine gun, but Dock Green was never a realistic manor even when the famous television series was made in the 1960s. The police have changed along with the rest of society and both sides of the crime war have got plenty of guns and too much machismo. Aside from the official police, the rise in crime (and fear of it) has also spawned a huge "security" sector that is now all too evident in public. Images Brighton has an interesting and growing range of pictures about the police and the issues of crime and security.
