Queen's Jubilee Parade, St James's Park in London, June 2002
The Royal Family is the soap opera of all time, with costumes and locations to die for and plot lines that increasingly boggle the imagination. More seriously, the Windsors lie at the heart of the British state and constitution and there are real issues about the rights and wrongs of this situation. Visually, of course, royal events are hard to beat, even when it's raining. Whether at the smallest village event or in the Mall, royal affairs bring out the colourful and the bizarre in English life. The online library has pictures from numerous royal events since 1981, plus royalty-related coverage such as patriotism and republican protest.
