Big Issue magazine seller's dog in Brighton in January 2002
The street life of every era reveals much of its essence. The monochrome cars and black hats of the 1950s were so much more sober and conformist than the colourful, exhibitionist fashions and advertising posters of the 1960s. The ubiquitous security cameras and Big Issue sellers of today tell a more depressing story. That said, street life nowadays is probably busier and more vibrant than at any period since Victorian times. The online library can provide a very wide choice of pictures of contemporary street life, especially in Brighton and London, since the early 1980s.
