Making an entrance
The current theme of architecture continues this week with a look at doors and entrances. These don't just let you go and in and out, they often say a lot about a building and its purpose. Grandiose decoration may mean a bank or an institution but, as the years pass, it can also tell a story of decline and sadness. Equally, the doorways of the humblest buildings are often made personal and special by their occupants. And then, as shown in the second picture in this series, some entrances are just plain odd. These pictures were taken in London, Brighton, Chichester, Cheltenham and Normandy between 1987 and 2003.
