London's Portobello Road is famous for its antique market, flourishing there every Saturday since the late 1940s. It has, however, much more than that and, like a chameleon, the street changes by day and night. Besides the pricey knick-knacks, there are food and household stalls throughout the week. The pubs and cafes, despite the area's gentrification, are full of the widest social mix. At the top end of the road are elegant Georgian houses (including one where George Orwell once lived), while further down the street lies the shadow of the concrete Westway fly-over. The pictures in this week's set were taken between 1987 and 2004.
