Spring means the start of the tourist season once again. Millions of hopeful visitors flooding in to our wonderful capital to savour the many delights of the metropolis. Waiting for them with equal expectations will be all the workers and businesses that make London such a successful travel destination. Also lying in wait for the eager guests, unfortunately but inevitably, will be the legions of pickpockets, muggers, con-artists and rip-off merchants, together with the most vicious and predatory traffic attendants in the world. The streets of London, sad to say, often seem paved with rather more shit than gold. This week's picture set presents an affectionately cynical tourist guide to London, made up of ten images taken during a walk around the West End on a wet Wednesday in April. There is, of course, so much more that is marvellous and positive about London. It is a truly fantastic and amazing city that is well worth visiting at any time and in any weather. But there is also an awful lot of crap.
