Brighton's annual festival spans four weekends in May and each one includes spectacular outdoor events. The final Saturday this year saw a Samba Parade made up of three different groups converging on the seafront in a celebration of the many arts of carnivals and processions. It was also an excuse to dress up in colourful costumes and have a good time. A Brighton-based organisation called Carnival Collective organised the parade and also provides dance and music workshops throughout the year. Under the name Carnival Encounter, this seaside event now has participants from outside the Brighton area and is part of a whole weekend of workshops and performances. Good weather is pretty much essential for an event like this and, luckily, the sun was still shining on Saturday evening. The parade merged happily on the seafront with the weekend trippers, clubbers and hen parties. Brighton really comes into its own with this sort of thing and May is the perfect month for it.
