Every September since 1994, thousands of bikers have descended on Brighton seafront for the annual Ace Cafe rally. The Ace Cafe in North London is a celebrated haunt of motorbike enthusiasts and the trip down to Brighton continues the tradition that began with the Rockers in the 1960s. Nowadays, in a somewhat surprising outbreak of peace, love and understanding, the grizzled riders of Harleys and Nortons share the rally with hundreds of scooter-borne mods on Vespas and Lambrettas. The old mods and rockers, together with their younger descendants, share bottles of beer rather than throw them at each other and the atmosphere is a celebration of good times on two wheels. People come from all over Europe to this Brighton rally, but it remains a quintessentially English contemporary event.
