This week's pictures are in celebration of babies. All of us, even Prince Philip and the Pope, started off life as one. Most of us, as mothers and fathers, bring them into the world with hope and happiness and love. The first weeks and months of their creation are marvellous and exhausting times. Their miraculous progress is photographed incessantly. Gurgles give way to words and soon they are rushing about all over the place. And then, almost before you know it, they have joined the monstrous regiment of teenagers and declared war on you and everything you have done for the little sods. Such is and ever has been life. But then, after they've left home to make their own nests, you can get out the old baby album and gaze dewy eyed at the wonderful newness of the glorious start you gave them in their lives.
