This week's pictures come from a rally of old military vehicles on Brighton seafront in May 1995. There were trucks, jeeps, armoured cars, ambulances and even a couple of tanks. Lots of people were dressed in British and American uniforms of various vintages. Stalls were set up selling military paraphernalia that included rifles, revolvers and ammunition. The guns were disarmed and it's a good guess that not many of those in uniform had ever fired a shot in anger. Such nostalgia for the wars of the twentieth century is harmless enough, but there must be an uncomfortable resonance in at the present time, just after Remembrance Day and when British soldiers are having to risk their lives in support of the USA's almost universally criticised operation in Iraq. That said, back in the spring of 1995, everyone had a grand time playing soldiers on Brighton seafront.
