Easter prompts a set of pictures about Jesus. Christianity, unlike Islam, positively encourages the visual representation of religious figures. Churches and cathedrals are rich in images of Christ, God and all the rest. The convention has been to show Jesus with long hair and robes, though Mark Wallinger's recent statue of Christ in Trafalgar Square was of a relatively ordinary and modern looking man, albeit in a loincloth and with a crown of thorns. Apart from paintings and sculptures, Jesus's name has been taken for any number of purposes, often very much in vain. There are Jesus sausages and Jesus jeans, while the piece of machinery that keeps a helicopter's main rotor blade from falling off is called the Jesus bolt. Jesus Saves With The Woolwich was a popular piece of graffiti a few years ago. He must have gone for the long term interest account.
