The end of May and the football season comes to a climactic end.  This week's picture set looks at football fans, for many of whom even the short summer break is too long to be without their passion.  At least this season has ended on a high for Arsenal, Chelsea and, especially, Liverpool, who have had such a spectacular victory over AC Milan. For true fans, however, loyalty is not dependent upon victories and may even deepen in defeat and adversity.  The present circumstances of Manchester United will therefore be an interesting test of that club's real popularity.  Businessmen see football as an opportunity to make money and all too often they regard fans as just another species of consumer.  But no one in their right mind could possibly love Tesco the way an Arsenal supporter loves the Gunners or a Brighton one feels about the Seagulls. Football's more than a game and much, much more than just an investment.
