This week's picture set is about graffiti animals - representations of pigs, dogs, cats and rats etc in pieces of graffiti seen in Brighton and London in recent years. Animals are frequent subjects in popular art and graffiti is no exception. Most pieces tend to be crude line drawings, but stencil techniques enable much more detailed images. Interestingly, if you put "graffiti animals" into Google, you get very few results (including a French painter called Daniele Jaquillard who has also published a photo set on the subject). One might have expected references to the views of the many people who think all graffiti artists are animals. There are numerous websites with galleries of graffiti pictures, but they tend to classify by artist or location rather than subject. It may sound rather pompous and arty, but perhaps there should be a taxonomy of graffiti. Grants for its compilation will be gratefully received by this site !
