This week's pictures are about scooters. These are more and more popular as a way of getting around, especially in cities, and sales in Britain have tripled in the past five years. London commuters, for understandable reasons, have been avoiding public transport and buying the zippy new scooters made by the Italian firm Piaggio and, increasingly, Chinese manufacturers.  Historically, of course, the scooter has been associated with the Mod movement and the tradition is still vigorously kept up at rallies and clubs all over the country. Brighton is the classic venue for scooter rallies and the town is also home to Jump The Gun, a retail mecca for all things mod and scooterist. The Lambretta Scooter Club of Great Britain has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. There's a good chance it will celebrate its centenary with the great-grandchildren of the original mods showing off their hydrogen-powered scooters on the Brighton seafront.
