This week's pictures come from the small seaside town of Broadstairs in Kent. Some of them were taken back in 1987 and 1988, when this quiet and charming place was an old-fashioned holiday resort and fishing port. Remarkably, although the fishing has declined, Broadstairs has retained almost all of its old-fashioned charm, besides becoming a popular second-home location for affluent Londoners. The streets still have many independent and often quirky shops and the marvellous Morellis ice cream parlour continues to flourish. Charles Dickens, a frequent visitor to the town, would be familiar with most of the architecture and much of the character of Broadstairs even now. He might, however, look twice at the restaurant in the High Street called Dickens In India.
