This week's picture set remembers Brighton's Gay Pride in 2000. It took place on a nice hot day in July and thousands came down from London for the event. The theme for the parade that year was Hollywood and, as might be expected, there were plenty of Marlene Dietrichs and Joan Crawfords. Brighton is not short of people who think nothing of dressing up as Joan Crawford on a wet Wednesday in February, let alone during Gay Pride, so that July weekend in 2000 saw some pretty spectacular outfits on the streets and in the park. The great thing about Brighton's annual gay celebration, six years ago as well as all the other years I've seen it, is the relaxed and happy atmosphere. It could even cheer up Joan Crawford.
