This picture set this week is about cats. The real animal only features in three of the ten images, but then the cat has long been an important figurative subject in art and mythology, not to mention all those Lost Cat notices you see everywhere.  There's an interesting question about those - why do so many more cats than dogs get lost ?  The answer of course is that they're not lost at all - they've just cleared off to somewhere else more comfortable and with better food. Felis Silvestris Catus (to give the domestic cat its posh name) can be a pretty selfish beast. But then these animals are full of contradictions.  Their sense of smell is said to be fourteen times more sensitive than that of us humble humans.  But if that really is so, how come cat food always smells so disgusting ?
