This week's picture subject is skulls. They feature often in graffiti murals (see last week's set on graffiti faces) and are also used for other decorative art where a certain "edge" is desired. Hells Angels bikers are particularly fond of them, as are tattoo parlours and the more outré kind of jeweller. The power and fear of death obviously made them popular in mediaeval churches and anywhere the viewer needed to be reminded of human mortality. More lightheartedly, funfair decorations, especially ghost trains, are full of skulls, not to mention plenty of bones and skeletons. Sic Transit Gloria, as someone once said in the Latin.
