This week's pictures take a look at pub advertising boards. Unlike pub signs, which are celebrated and recorded in numerous books, the boards and notices outside pubs are usually overlooked for their visual and cultural appeal. Often just written in chalk on blackboards, they advertise events at or features of the pub and are, by definition, temporary. In their simple way, however, they are not only idiosynchratic but also tell quite a lot about our life and times. Tastes in food, the booze culture, entertainment trends - they are all well illustrated on pub advertising boards. Some of them are pretty funny too.
