Brighton's Gay Pride took place on August 5th and, by way of celebration, the subject of this week's picture feature is gay hats. The theme of this year's event was "Carry On", as in the films, and Barbara Windsor (who is in fantastic nick) graced one of the floats on the parade. From the hat point of view, the Carry On films were an inspired choice and brought out a glorious display of turbans, head-dresses, bonnets and, of course, helmets. But perhaps the most significant piece of headgear on show was the peaked cap belonging to Joe Edwards, the Chief Constable of Sussex, who led the parade in full uniform and accompanied by dozens of his officers. Though not himself a gay man, he decided the event was important enough in the community for him to take part. It was an excellent thing for him to do. Carry On Constable !
