Stop the War and Palestine protest in London in September 2002
Last week's pictures featured the Liberty & Livelihood march that brought 400,000 country protestors to London. This week's are about the much more urban and multi-cultural demonstrators who turned out in huge numbers for the march and rally against the planned war against Iraq. The demonstration also centred on the underlying and fundamental grievance in the Muslim world against Israel's attacks on the Palestinians. The atmosphere of the whole event could be described as like the CND demos of the 1980s, but with added Muslims. It was a powerful protest on the most important political issues in the world today and, especially by contrast with the countryside march of the previous weekend, has been shamefully under-reported by some of the British newspapers.
