The City of London and Spitalfields in 2002

This week's pictures are of the City of London and Spitalfields. Although there are no border posts or guards dividing these two adjacent areas of London, the contrast between them is as extreme as you will find almost anywhere outside the third world. Just a short walk from the shiny money towers of Broadgate and the teeming commuter suits of Liverpool Street station, the streets around Spitalfields are still alive with the ghosts of nineteenth century London.  Although many of the old buildings are being converted into up-market "lofts", there is still much more to this area than corporate blandness.
