London march and rally against war on Iraq, 15-02-2003
Saturday's march and rally against the war on Iraq brought over one million people onto the streets of London. They came from all across Britain and represented what must be the broadest collection of groups and individuals that has ever protested together in this country. The atmosphere seemed more sombre and serious than at the previous Iraq demo last September, partly perhaps because of the bone-chilling weather, but mainly on account of the imminence of military action by the US and British governments. That said, there was still plenty of good humour and colourful characters on yesterday's march. Today's pictures of the week show what it was like to be at this powerful and, hoping against hope, influential event.
The march had a spectacular variety of placards and banners (image 2303-1)
