Dance parade on Brighton seafront in July 1997

One of the most interesting public events to take place in Brighton in recent years was the "dance parade" on the seafront in July 1997.  Clearly taking their cue from the famous Love Parade in Berlin, the Brighton ravers had a marvellous afternoon as their techno and trance music blared out from decorated floats. The "loved-up" atmosphere was very infectious and enjoyed even by unsuspecting daytrippers who had no idea what was going on.  Unfortunately, a combination of erratic organisation and the wariness of the local authorities meant that the event was not repeated in following years.  It was great fun when it did take place. 

The floats that made up the parade were decorated in a great variety of styles (image 1126-13)
