Musicians in the street

Apart from the traditional trade of busking, musicians also play in public at free festivals and on demonstrations. The variety of musical instruments and styles on display gets wider every year, though the skills of street musicians have always ranged all the way from the astonishingly accomplished down to the totally hopeless.  One consolation in respect of the latter is that it seems the didgeridoo has at last had its day. Most street music, however, adds to the richness of living in towns and cities. The ten pictures in this series were taken in Brighton and London between 1985 and 2003.
