The London to Brighton bike ride

This takes place every June and now has 27,000 participating riders.  They start at Clapham Common and follow a route along minor roads down to the coast, finishing on Madeira Drive.  This is emphatically not a race, with many riders in groups of friends and work colleagues.  Some take the whole day to complete the 58 miles, having stopped off at pubs or for picnics along the way.  Besides being a hugely enjoyable social event, it also raises millions of pounds every year for the British Heart Foundation. The pictures in this set were taken in 1982, 2000, 2002 and 2003.
