Gardens and gardening

Whether they live in terraced houses or on grand estates, most gardeners are passionately engaged in what they do and work hard for the results they achieve. The variety of their tastes and skills are evident on any walk in town or countryside. Flowerbeds and vegetable allotments are cultivated with tools of every age, kind and shape and they all, without exception, need water. This week's picture set has ten images taken in Brighton, Sussex and France from 1985 to 2003.
