Cyclists and cycling
Concluding the series of picture sets on different activities, it's the turn of bicycling. From middle-aged couples on tandems to super-fit riders on racing bikes, the world of cycling covers the widest spectrum. The invention of the bicycle, although swiftly overshadowed by that of the motor car, has given freedom and mobility to millions in the past 120 years. It may even prove a more long-lasting form of transport than the infernal combustion engine. The ten pictures in this series were taken in Brighton, Bath, Guernsey and Amsterdam between 1982 and 2003.
The Tour de France came across the Channel in July 1994 and this shows the riders coming down the Ditchling Road into Brighton (image 915-2)
