Architectural Colour

Colour has been a feature of buildings throughout history. The Tower of Babel is said to have been faced with blue bricks and the interiors of its eight stages were all painted in different colours. Daniel Liebeskind's design for the World Trade Center replacement in New York is a dramatic blue and green structure soaring above Manhattan. Colour has been vividly used for centuries in the vernacular architecture of the Mediterranean countries and brightens up many modern buildings in Northern Europe. From the smallest house to the largest office development, good use of colour helps make architecture more cheerful and pleasing on the eye. The ten pictures in this set were taken between 1986 and 2003 in Brighton, London, Rome, Florence, Berlin and Wales.
